Enchanted Forest

On Saturday September 22 the Susan Murray team created an elegant and magical wedding theme fit for royalty. We put a sophisticated spin on an enchanted forest theme wedding. We combined a number of textures and soft coloured linens to create this regal look that complimented the venue perfectly. The rich gold architecture at The Venetian Banquet Hall added to our design and framed our backdrop beautifully.

The couple had a large bridal party so creating a grand design was important. We wanted to make a design that highlighted the couple on their special day. We started with the bridal party's table, our Stone Satin and Ivory Origami Satin covered the head tables. We used our pink chiffon rosettes and some diamond trim to pick up the Origami satin and add drama to the textured fabric. Our Ivory Mesh Sequence draped over the table was an elegant touch that screamed bridal. The way it gathered on the floor added to the whimsical feel of the design.

For the backdrop we used two different ivory linens, gathered to make a luscious, dramatic look. Our Silver Mesh Sequence was draped down the center which highlighted the couple's throne chairs!

Our Table Top Chandelier was a custom design for this couple. The three chandeliers and hanging crystal chains were a dramatic, eye catching look that sparkled above the couple all night. The white manzanita branches wrapped in white chiffon really brought the mystical fairy tale theme to life. It really made the couple the focal point of the room!

For the head table we used our Ivory Rose fabric. This was the perfect choice for that enchanted, whimsical theme.

The cake was a simple yet elegant four tier white fondant cake. The soft ivory ribbon and diamond trim fit our design and added even more sparkle!

The guest tables were dressed in our Stone Satin and our Silver Cartier. The soft stone satin was the perfect color to highlight the beautiful floral arrangements. A long mirror runner is a great way to make the table look larger and to reflect the candle light and beautiful colors of the flowers.

 The couple chose our Silver Ice Charger Plate from our new line of designer chargers. And what a great choice it was! The simple design was subtle but glamorous on the different linens they chose for guest tables.



It wouldn't be a Susan Muray design without a little sparkle here and there! Crystal votives and vases on guest tables are a great way to bring a classic look to the table without making it look too clutter. A few candles among the overflowing florals will give the table a beautiful warm glow. We also added shimmering brooches and crystal ornaments on the tables. This is an easy way to complete your table top design and add sparkle within your floral arrangements.

Trend Watch - Tufted Luxury

There's something very sexy about tufted furniture. Take the hit show Mad Men for example, this pale blue bed makes the bedroom in the Draper's upstage New York home as drama-packed as Don and Betty's marriage. With deep tufting, blue velvet, and a sensual curved shape, this piece is the epitome of lush luxury.

But where and when exactly did tufting begin? The above Louis XV. Chair is from 18th century France so we know it has been around for some time.

Although it was considered old fashioned and out dated at times, tufted furniture made a huge come back when Bauhaus Meister, Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe debuted his Barcelona Chair, turning tufting into an icon of modernity.

Since then tufted furniture has been a staple in chic homes and movie star portraits. What's interesting is that there seem to be two styles in tufted furniture, much like feminine and masculine versions. We think there is a parallel with the Mad Men cast...

Tufted furniture can be sophisticated, elegant, luxurious and comforting. The soft padding and classic texture create a dimension to the furniture and add instant glamour. It is feminine yet strong, assertive yet modest.

Yet tufted furniture can be Oh-So masculine and sexy. When created with materials like sleek black leather, it exudes power, stoicism, and sovereignty. It's simply hot.

Tufted furniture is also an obvious choice in event styling when playing up the luxury and glamour. Simply by using and placing gorgeous tufted furniture, a luxurious seating area is created where guests can socialize and mingle.

A perfect addition to any cocktail parties, weddings or corporate events with glamour.

The tufted look is not limited to furniture only. As seen above, applying shallow tufting to flower boxes can instantly glamorize the event and creates luxury.

If a fully tufted surface is too heavy but you would like to incorporate the luxurious feel of tufted furniture to your event, this tufted cushion for chairs just do the magic. It's light yet carries the same elegance and glamour as the original furniture.

Some like to take it all the way with the theme. Here is a gorgeous wedding cake where the tufted look has been carried over and it is just breath taking. Very original and unique.

And here is a quite humorous take on tufted furniture. These life sized "pigs" are by Yvonne Fehling and Jennie Peiz. They are interior decoration, toy, art and of course, chairs. Maybe you can feel like the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland... "I love a warm pig belly for my aching feet."

At Susan Murray, we love to look at different eras in the history to gain inspiration. 18^th Century France, the era of Marie Antoinette for example, was glimmering and exploding with romantic Rococo style glamour and lavish ornamentation.
