Trousseau Tea

"A proper Victorian maiden came to her marriage bringing love, devotion - and a lifetime's supply of lingerie..."

The bridal trousseau is a centuries old tradition. A hopeful, single woman would begin collecting the belongings needed for her marriage at a very young age. Her wedding gown, corsets, lingerie, jewellery, bridal accessories and bedding for her new home were all packed into what was called a hope chest. A woman would also pack outfits for her honeymoon and newlywed days.

Elaborate and expensive items found in a woman's trousseau signified her wealth and social class.
